The Garden Street Lofts building located in Hoboken, New Jersey was just designated as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council after its reconstruction last year.

Hoboken real estate builders are becoming more aware of the importance of building green properties and also passing the savings of added-efficiency to their home owners. The Garden Street Lofts, which is actually Hoboken’s first mixed-use residential development, including 30 luxury condos and a sedum ground-covered, grassy roof for carbon monoxide emissions.

The building was also recognized as an important green building by the Sustainable Building Industry Council.

Florence Block, executive director of the U.S. Green Building Council’s New Jersey chapter and Hudson County executive, Thomas DeGise are both hoping that the Hoboken building will set a precedent for other Hoboken condo and apartment buildings. DeGuise stated that the lofts should serve as “a boilerplate for building anything from here on in.”

Hoboken real estate has evolved in the past decade to include many more luxury condos, high-rise apartments and deluxe hotel homes like what is found at the new W Hoboken. Builders and construction companies in the area are paying more attention to the praise, recognition and social responsibility attached with creating and developing green real estate projects in Hoboken thanks to the Garden Street Lofts.

Other Hoboken properties are looking to begin reconstruction to also receive LEED certification for their buildings and hopefully attract new environmentally conscious residents.
